Join us on an unforgettable journey to the Marble Castle (Marmorslottet), one of the most remarkable natural wonders in Northern Norway, where nature has spent thousands of years carving a surreal, fairytale-like landscape. The adventure begins with a drive to the old farm at Fisktjønna, where you’ll see traces of early settlers who once cultivated the land. From there, we begin a scenic hike through a protected nature reserve, where the limestone-rich terrain gradually reveals its secrets. As we approach the Marble Castle, the landscape transforms dramatically—massive marble formations, sculpted caves, potholes, and smooth stone surfaces appear, all carved over millennia by the powerful flow of the Glomåga river. This river has shaped the limestone into unique formations with intricate textures and elegant contours, creating an otherworldly environment. For the brave, a sit on the narrow “rock horse” ledge offers a thrilling view with the river rushing directly beneath. Autumn is the ideal time to visit, when lower water levels allow for a closer look inside the potholes and even a chance to cross the river and explore hidden caves and formations. The tour lasts about four hours, including hotel pickup and return, and can also be done by following in your own car. We provide an experienced guide, but recommend wearing sturdy shoes and bringing a camera to capture the natural beauty. Please be mindful of the river’s strong currents and the importance of preserving this pristine site—take only memories and leave no trace. A minimum of three participants is required, or you may cover the cost for three to enjoy this magical landscape in a smaller group.

A hard trail and not a place I would bring dogs and small children do to the hard climb at the end to get down to see the beautiful view

The hike can be challenging if you attempt to go there with your dog.

The last kilometer when driving there is basically gravel and potholes so you should drive as slow a possible, be sure to read the sign that’s posted right outside the trail as it contains useful information and is the only sign that exists along the whole trail. When walking inside the forest you will notice that the road splits in the middle, if you want to go to the marble castle be sure to go on the LEFT! You absolutely need to have good shoes as the last 300 meters of the trail are very steep, you will most likely need to use your arms and legs to go down and come back up so naturally expect to get dirty. Overall the place is very beautiful and totally worth the trouble, but it is a bit challenging getting there.

Not an easy path at the end. Wear good shoes!!! Nice site to visit and use moskito repelent.

About 20 mins walk from the parking on a nice footbridge. Mosquitos 🦟 are present in July so consider that. The rock itself is very non slippery since it’s porous, even during rainfall. The nicest views are from upstream of the most traveled area.
